{"id":13913,"date":"2019-02-14T06:56:27","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T11:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=13913"},"modified":"2019-02-14T06:56:27","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T11:56:27","slug":"parents-arrested-after-starving-children-found-locked-in-dog-crates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2019\/02\/14\/parents-arrested-after-starving-children-found-locked-in-dog-crates\/","title":{"rendered":"Parents Arrested After Starving Children Found Locked In Dog Crates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- TAG START --><\/p>\n<p>Two parents in Rhome, Texas, are facing charges of child endangerment after police found four malnourished children, two of whom were locked in dog cages.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday morning, deputies for the Wise County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to a call reporting possible family violence.<\/p>\n<p>Officers arrived to find Andrew Joseph Fabila and Paige Harkings, both 24, at the home.\u00a0Fabila had cuts on his face,\u00a0according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcmessenger.com\/2019\/update\/children-found-locked-in-dog-kennels-near-rhome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-rapid-elm=\"context_link\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link\" data-rapid-sec=\"{&quot;entry-text&quot;:&quot;entry-text&quot;}\" data-rapid_p=\"1\" data-v9y=\"1\">Wise County Messenger.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Authorities were talking to the couple when a deputy found four kids, ages 5, 4, 3 and 1, at the home. The oldest two were locked\u00a0in a 3-by-3-foot dog kennel.<\/p>\n<p>All four children appeared to be malnourished and were covered in waste, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dfw.cbslocal.com\/2019\/02\/12\/malnourished-children-dog-kennels-wise-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-rapid-elm=\"context_link\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link\" data-rapid-sec=\"{&quot;entry-text&quot;:&quot;entry-text&quot;}\" data-rapid_p=\"2\" data-v9y=\"1\">CBS Dallas Fort Worth.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Authorities arrested Harkings, the mother of all four kids, and Fabila, the father of one of the children, and charged each with four counts of endangering a child.<\/p>\n<p>Harkings was also charged with\u00a0one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.<\/p>\n<p>Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/crime\/2019\/02\/12\/2-starving-children-found-locked-filthy-dog-kennels-rural-texas-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-rapid-elm=\"context_link\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link\" data-rapid-sec=\"{&quot;entry-text&quot;:&quot;entry-text&quot;}\" data-rapid_p=\"3\" data-v9y=\"1\">The Dallas Morning News<\/a>\u00a0that it\u00a0was the worst child abuse case he\u2019d seen in his 44 years in law enforcement.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve not worked one where children are locked inside a dog kennel, and I find that absolutely disgusting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"entry_paragraph_4\" class=\"advertisement-holder entry-paragraph-ad entry-body--paragraph-ad\" data-label-height=\"50\">\n<div class=\"ad_spot \">\n<div id=\"579a0eb2db4bc65d970d26cb\" class=\"vdb_player \">\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"vdb_c8042d75-9abc-4dc0-8912-2dd9f1585780\"><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" aria-label=\"Video\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Both parents remained in jail Wednesday in lieu of bail, $75,000 for Harkings, $60,000 for Fabila.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Child Protective Services said it had previously been in contact with the family but did not elaborate, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/children-found-locked-in-dog-cage-in-wise-county-parents-facing-charges\/287-60d61358-48f9-417d-8206-d68cafc8a160\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-rapid-elm=\"context_link\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link\" data-rapid-sec=\"{&quot;entry-text&quot;:&quot;entry-text&quot;}\" data-rapid_p=\"4\" data-v9y=\"1\">WFAA.com.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deputies gave the children food and water before taking them to a hospital to be examined.
