{"id":12537,"date":"2018-09-22T06:44:21","date_gmt":"2018-09-22T10:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=12537"},"modified":"2018-09-22T06:44:21","modified_gmt":"2018-09-22T10:44:21","slug":"david-brickwood-murder-hope-new-forensic-tests-will-hold-key","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/09\/22\/david-brickwood-murder-hope-new-forensic-tests-will-hold-key\/","title":{"rendered":"David Brickwood murder: Hope new forensic tests will hold key"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Forensic tests are to be carried out on new evidence that police hope could lead to the murderer of a scrap metal dealer.<\/p>\n<p>David Brickwood, 74, was stabbed and beaten in the attack at his Northampton home on 26 September 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Police have so far\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-northamptonshire-43343087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrested seven people<\/a>\u00a0over the murder, but no-one has been charged.<\/p>\n<p>Det Insp Stuart Hitchon said forensic tests on items found in July could provide police with a breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is not going to go away, and we are not going to go away,&#8221; said Det Insp Hitchon, who took over the investigation in June. &#8220;In terms of forensics, techniques are developing all the time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said the force was liaising with the National Crime Agency and these new items, together with older evidence and telecommunications devices, would be subject to further examination.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/E8F7\/production\/_96093695_sbna_davidbrickwood.jpg\" alt=\"David Brickwood\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\"><span class=\"media-caption__text\">David Brickwood suffered multiple injuries in the attack<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Officers remain convinced Mr Brickwood died as a result of a &#8220;<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-northamptonshire-34374141\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">robbery gone wrong<\/a>&#8221; and the intention was not to kill the pensioner.<\/p>\n<p>He was known to keep cash in his Lindsay Avenue home, in Abington, which was broken into late on Friday or in the early hours of Saturday, three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Brickwood, the eldest of the victim&#8217;s three sons, said: &#8220;It was about money. He had money in his bedroom, and they went straight there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although David Brickwood managed to call the emergency services, he died later in hospital having sustained 35 stab and blunt force trauma injuries,\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-northamptonshire-39952967\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an inquest heard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was so loved,&#8221; Gary Brickwood said. &#8220;People here know who did this.
