{"id":1241,"date":"2016-10-17T14:06:38","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T18:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=1241"},"modified":"2016-10-17T14:14:40","modified_gmt":"2016-10-17T18:14:40","slug":"mauling-death-of-baby-by-pet-dog-owned-by-cop-is-not-a-criminal-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/10\/17\/mauling-death-of-baby-by-pet-dog-owned-by-cop-is-not-a-criminal-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Mauling Death Of Baby By Pet Dog Owned By Cop Is Not A Criminal Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">The death of a baby boy mauled by a family dog is &#8220;unlikely&#8221; to be treated as a criminal investigation, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Archie Darby, aged four months, died after being attacked in Colchester, Essex, on Thursday afternoon.\u00a0His brother Daniel-Jay Darby, who is 22 months old, is still in hospital with life changing injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The owner of the dog &#8211; the children&#8217;s aunt &#8211; has been named as 31 year old serving police officer PC Clare Ferdinand.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident,&#8221; a force spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is not a criminal investigation and is not likely to be in the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the BBC at the weekend, Essex police and crime commissioner Roger Hirst <a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-essex-37666769\" target=\"_blank\">confirmed the dog&#8217;s owner &#8220;works for police&#8221;<\/a> but could not clarify in which position or for which force.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hirst said the family pet &#8211; believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier-type &#8211; &#8220;didn&#8217;t have any history&#8221; of aggression and &#8220;wasn&#8217;t at all vicious&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The boys&#8217; mother, who has not been named, was left with minor injuries during the attack in a house in Harwich Road.
