{"id":12321,"date":"2018-09-04T09:39:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-04T13:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=12321"},"modified":"2018-09-04T09:39:00","modified_gmt":"2018-09-04T13:39:00","slug":"jose-mourinho-gets-suspended-jail-sentence-for-tax-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/09\/04\/jose-mourinho-gets-suspended-jail-sentence-for-tax-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Jose Mourinho &#8216;gets suspended jail sentence&#8217; for tax fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Manchester United manager Jos\u00e9 Mourinho has reached a deal with the Spanish state on a one-year suspended sentence in a long-running tax fraud case, Spain&#8217;s El Mundo newspaper reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Portuguese national was also fined about \u20ac2m (\u00a31.8m; $2.3m), it says.<\/p>\n<p>He was accused of owing nearly \u20ac3.3m in undeclared image rights revenue for 2011 and 2012, when he was Real Madrid manager.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mourinho said earlier he had paid all the taxes he owed.<\/p>\n<p>He is not expected to serve any time in jail because Spanish law states that a sentence of under two years for a first offence can be served on probation, according to Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC has contacted Mr Mourinho&#8217;s representatives for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish authorities launched the image rights case against Mr Mourinho in June last year.<\/p>\n<p>His representatives, Gestifute Media, said at the time that he had paid more than \u20ac26m in tax at an average rate of more than 41% while living in Spain from 2010 to 2013.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Gestifute said, he accepted a settlement agreement regarding previous years.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish courts recently cracked down on tax evasion among footballers:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">In June,\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-44499138\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo accepted a \u20ac18.8m fine and was given a suspended jail term<\/a>\u00a0to settle charges against him<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">In July 2017,<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-40534761\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Barcelona player Lionel Messi avoided a 21-month prison sentence\u00a0<\/a>by agreeing to pay \u20ac252,000, equating to \u20ac400 for each day of the sentence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-europe-45408351\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Manchester United manager Jos\u00e9 Mourinho has reached a deal with the Spanish state on a one-year suspended sentence in a long-running tax fraud case, Spain&#8217;s El Mundo newspaper reports.
