{"id":12312,"date":"2018-09-03T11:15:17","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T15:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=12312"},"modified":"2018-09-03T11:15:17","modified_gmt":"2018-09-03T15:15:17","slug":"16-year-old-fined-under-russias-gay-propaganda-law-files-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/09\/03\/16-year-old-fined-under-russias-gay-propaganda-law-files-appeal\/","title":{"rendered":"16-Year-Old Fined Under Russia\u2019s \u2018Gay Propaganda\u2019 Law Files Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By\u00a0\u00a0Daria Litvinova<\/p>\n<p>MOSCOW (Thomson Reuters Foundation) &#8211; The first Russian minor to be fined under a new law against so-called gay propaganda for posting pictures of shirtless men embracing has filed an appeal, his lawyer said on Monday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-list-component yr-content-list-text text\" data-rapid-cpos=\"2\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p>Maxim Neverov, 16, was fined 50,000 rubles ($760) this month after a commission on juvenile affairs found him guilty of \u201cpromoting non-traditional sexual relationship among minors.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-list-component yr-content-list-text text\" data-rapid-cpos=\"3\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p>He was the first minor to be fined under the law, which makes any event or act regarded by the authorities as an attempt to promote homosexuality to minors illegal. It has previously been used to stop gay pride marches and detain gay rights activists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-list-component yr-content-list-text text\" data-rapid-cpos=\"4\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p>\u201cYesterday we mailed our appeal (to the authorities). It should be considered and ruled on within two months,\u201d Neverov\u2019s lawyer Artyom Lapov told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by phone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-list-component yr-content-list-text text\" data-rapid-cpos=\"5\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p>Neverov has denied that the pictures posted on the social network VKontakte amounted to gay propaganda.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-list-component yr-content-list-text text\" data-rapid-cpos=\"6\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p>\u201cAll people\u2019s rights are being violated in Russia, not just LGBT people\u2019s,\u201d he said in an interview before the appeal was filed on Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-list-component yr-content-list-text text\" data-rapid-cpos=\"7\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p>\u201cAnd I believe LGBT are just people, so there is no reason to fight for LGBT rights separately from everyone else\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-list-component yr-content-list-text text\" data-rapid-cpos=\"8\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p>Russia was ranked Europe\u2019s second least LGBT-friendly nation in 2016 by ILGA-Europe, a network of European LGBT groups.
