Pecker also provided investigators with details about payments Cohen made to the women, the sources said.\u00a0\u00a0Representatives for American Media Inc. did not respond to a request for comment.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">Cohen pleaded guilty Tuesday to eight criminal counts, including tax fraud, false statements to a bank and campaign finance violations.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">In court Tuesday, Cohen said, &#8220;I and the CEO of a media company, at the request of the candidate, worked together&#8221; to squelch stories,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/08\/21\/politics\/michael-cohen-plea-deal-talks\/index.html\">effectively implicating Trump\u00a0<\/a>himself.\u00a0 According to the court filing, Cohen and Pecker worked to suppress potentially damaging claims against candidate Trump, with AMI using a tabloid tactic called &#8220;catch and kill.&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__read-all\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">Though they were not named in the plea deal filed in court, the women whom Cohen helped silence were a porn star named Stephanie Clifford, whose stage name is Stormy Daniels, and former Playboy model Karen McDougal. Trump has denied having an affair with either woman.\u00a0\u00a0Cohen arranged a nondisclosure agreement with Clifford in which he paid the adult film star $130,000. Cohen was charged with making an excessive campaign contribution, since the payment was made in service of the campaign and exceeded the federal limit.\u00a0\u00a0Cohen and Pecker &#8220;worked together to keep an individual from publicly disclosing&#8221; information that would have been harmful to a candidate, referring to McDougal who was paid $150,000 by AMI for her story in August 2016.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2018\/07\/25\/media\/david-pecker-american-media-inc-trump\/index.html\">Pecker<\/a>\u00a0considers himself a longtime friend of the President, whose relationship with Trump dates back decades.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">Vanity Fair was the first to report on Pecker&#8217;s immunity status.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">Cohen&#8217;s sentencing date is set for December 12 and he faces up to 65 years in prison.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">The White House and Trump have said that he has done nothing wrong relating to the hush money.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">Trump told Fox News in an interview Wednesday that he knew about the two payments only &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/08\/22\/politics\/donald-trump-michael-cohen-paul-manafort\/index.html\">later on<\/a>,&#8221; without specifying when.
