{"id":11155,"date":"2018-04-09T12:08:25","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T16:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=11155"},"modified":"2018-04-09T12:08:25","modified_gmt":"2018-04-09T16:08:25","slug":"south-africas-top-court-dismisses-pistorius-bid-to-appeal-murder-sentence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/04\/09\/south-africas-top-court-dismisses-pistorius-bid-to-appeal-murder-sentence\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s top court dismisses Pistorius&#8217; bid to appeal murder sentence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) &#8211; South Africa\u2019s Constitutional Court has dismissed an application by paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius to appeal his sentence for murdering his girlfriend, legal documents showed on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Pistorious was initially jailed for six years for shooting dead Reeva Steenkamp, but prosecutors argued that sentence had been \u201cshockingly lenient\u201d and an appeal court agreed in November to more than double the term to 15 years.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0Pistorius challenged the appeals court\u2019s ruling in the Constitutional Court.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe Constitutional Court has considered the application for condonation and leave to appeal.
