{"id":1112,"date":"2016-10-15T12:01:50","date_gmt":"2016-10-15T16:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=1112"},"modified":"2016-10-15T12:01:50","modified_gmt":"2016-10-15T16:01:50","slug":"ottawa-gang-member-pleads-guilty-to-manslaughter-in-2015-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/10\/15\/ottawa-gang-member-pleads-guilty-to-manslaughter-in-2015-shooting\/","title":{"rendered":"Ottawa Gang Member Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in 2015 Shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Khalid Mohammad, 28, was originally charged with second-degree murder\u00a0for gunning down University of Ottawa student Sharif Said, 21, in May 2015, but in a negotiated deal, pleaded guilty to the reduced\u00a0charge of manslaughter.<\/p>\n<p>His\u00a0lawyer said that if the murder case had gone to trial, the Crown would have had\u00a0a difficult time\u00a0proving its case. as one witness has left the country and another is dead.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammad shot Said several times near the train station in Ottawa\u2019s east end, and then took off in a getaway car driven by Abdulaziz Abdullah, 30.<\/p>\n<p>The trouble started after a night of partying on May 2, 2015. \u00a0At the party,\u00a0Said and his friends started arguing with Mohammad\u00a0\u00a0about whose neighborhood was better, and exchanged insults.<\/p>\n<p>Said and a\u00a0friend left the party but Said demanded to be driven back to the party. \u00a0He went inside and renewed\u00a0the argument, then\u00a0Mohammad pulled out a\u00a0handgun. \u00a0Mohammad hit him in the head with the\u00a0gun and someone hit\u00a0Said\u2019s head with a bottle. \u00a0Said was pulled to safety by a friend and they left by\u00a0a back door. They saw\u00a0Mohammad and his friends drive off.<\/p>\n<p>It didn\u2019t end there. \u00a0Said and his friend followed Mohammad\u2019s vehicle\u00a0and pulled in front of them, forcing them to pull over by the entrance to a\u00a0train station. \u00a0Said began\u00a0to walk toward them and one of Mohammad\u2019s friends\u00a0thought he had a gun\u00a0but\u00a0he didn\u2019t. \u00a0Then\u00a0Mohammad opened fire on Said and Said\u00a0kept walking toward their vehicle. \u00a0Said, although shot several times, made it close to the SUV and\u00a0touched it. \u00a0Police later found a\u00a0bloody hand print on the\u00a0passenger side.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammad pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to prison for 10 years. \u00a0He\u2019s been in jail since May 2015, and\u00a0was credited for custody time. \u00a0He has seven years and 10 months left to serve.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammad\u2019s getaway driver, Abdulaziz Abdullah, pleaded guilty to accessory. \u00a0After credit for custody time, he will serve 30 days in\u00a0jail.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">&nbsp; Khalid Mohammad, 28, was originally charged with second-degree murder\u00a0for gunning down University of Ottawa student Sharif Said, 21, in May 2015, but in a negotiated deal, pleaded guilty to the reduced\u00a0charge of manslaughter.
