{"id":1087,"date":"2016-10-15T03:50:03","date_gmt":"2016-10-15T07:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=1087"},"modified":"2016-10-15T03:51:23","modified_gmt":"2016-10-15T07:51:23","slug":"samsung-galaxy-note-7-banned-from-all-planes-in-the-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/10\/15\/samsung-galaxy-note-7-banned-from-all-planes-in-the-usa\/","title":{"rendered":"Samsung Galaxy Note 7 banned from all planes in the USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sky-component-story-article__intro\">Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones have been banned from all planes in the US following reports of the devices catching fire.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sky-component-story-article__body\">\n<p>The order from the country&#8217;s Transportation Department bars owners from carrying on the phones or taking them\u00a0in baggage during flights from 5pm UK time (Midday USA Eastern Time) on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>It warned that people who packed the devices in checked luggage raised the risk of &#8220;a catastrophic incident&#8221;, and passengers caught attempting to bring them on a plane could be fined or have them confiscated.<\/p>\n<p>Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said: &#8220;We recognise that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those aboard an aircraft must take priority.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are taking this additional step because even one fire incident inflight poses a high risk of severe personal injury and puts many lives at risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Samsung recalled about 2.5 million of its flagship phones last month after reports some had caught fire because of faulty lithium batteries.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Samsung\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/samsung-halts-note-10613101\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>permanently discontinued\u00a0production and sales of the Note 7<\/strong><\/a> worldwide\u00a0after failing to overcome the\u00a0battery problems.<\/p>\n<p>Growing concern\u00a0about the device had already\u00a0prompted airlines to warn\u00a0passengers not to switch on or charge their phones during flights, or stow them in checked baggage.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration recently banned the use of them\u00a0onboard US aircraft because of the device&#8217;s potential to overheat and explode.<\/p>\n<p>The firm also sent customers in the US fire-resistent packages this week to return the faulty devices.\u00a0The kits\u00a0contain a protective bag, thermally insulated boxes and gloves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones have been banned from all planes in the US following reports of the devices catching fire.
