{"id":10555,"date":"2018-02-04T12:06:43","date_gmt":"2018-02-04T17:06:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=10555"},"modified":"2018-02-04T12:06:43","modified_gmt":"2018-02-04T17:06:43","slug":"teacher-martin-myers-put-sock-boys-mouth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/02\/04\/teacher-martin-myers-put-sock-boys-mouth\/","title":{"rendered":"Teacher Martin Myers put his sock in boy&#8217;s mouth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A primary school teacher accused of putting his sock in a boy&#8217;s mouth and giving pupils answers during exams has been banned from teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Myers, 47, taught at Ecton Village Primary School in Northamptonshire between 2010 and 2015.<\/p>\n<p>He denied all the allegations and decided not to attend a professional conduct panel.<\/p>\n<p>But it concluded his conduct &#8220;fell significantly short of the standards expected of the profession&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A member of staff raised concerns that the teacher had assisted year six pupils during national curriculum exams, often known as Sats.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous children told an investigation he gave them the answers to a maths paper and a spelling test.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Myers stated during the school&#8217;s disciplinary process that he &#8220;always had the best interests of the children as my first concern&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He was also accused of telling pupils to ask their parents to write letters to save his job before he was dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>The panel was told of another incident where Mr Myers is said to have told a pupil to stop talking during a reading lesson.<\/p>\n<p>The boy said the teacher told him to &#8220;shut up&#8221; then took off his shoe and put a sock in his mouth, leaving him feeling &#8220;embarrassed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Myers claimed he had only thrown the sock across the classroom, telling the pupil to &#8220;put a sock in it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/678932\/Mr_Myers_Martin_15394_-_SoS_decision.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The panel found all the allegations to be proven and its report said<\/a>: &#8220;The findings of misconduct are particularly serious as they include a finding of maladministration of Sats exams and dishonesty&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He was banned from teaching in any school in England for at least five years.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-northamptonshire-42931961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">A primary school teacher accused of putting his sock in a boy&#8217;s mouth and giving pupils answers during exams has been banned from teaching.
