{"id":10495,"date":"2018-02-01T05:21:40","date_gmt":"2018-02-01T10:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=10495"},"modified":"2018-02-01T05:22:51","modified_gmt":"2018-02-01T10:22:51","slug":"bristol-city-football-fans-launch-legal-action-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/02\/01\/bristol-city-football-fans-launch-legal-action-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Bristol City football fans launch legal action against police"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"story-body\">\n<div class=\"story-body__inner\">\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Court papers have been served against a police force amid claims officers breached the human rights of a group of football supporters.<\/p>\n<p>The 10 Bristol City fans say they were detained by West Midlands Police and put back on trains ahead of a game against Birmingham City in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The case is being backed by the Bristol City Supporters Club and Trust.<\/p>\n<p>West Midlands Police has until 22 February to respond to the claim and said it was &#8220;seeking legal advice&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The group was among 51 supporters who were allegedly surrounded by police as they walked to St Andrew&#8217;s stadium in Birmingham in September 2015.<\/p>\n<p>It is claimed they were publicly accused of being hooligans by an officer with a megaphone, detained for 90 minutes, before being returned to New Street Station and put back on trains to Bristol.<\/p>\n<p>Eight of the 10 were issued with dispersal notices under anti-social behaviour legislation.<\/p>\n<p>All 10 are claiming false imprisonment and a breach of their human rights on the grounds they were deprived of their liberty.<\/p>\n<p>West Midlands Police has until 22 February to accept liability and offer compensation or the case will go to the civil courts.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman said: &#8220;Court proceedings have been served against the force and we are currently seeking legal advice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"topic-tags\">\n<div id=\"u929883816279471\">\n<div class=\"tags-container\">Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-42902134\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Court papers have been served against a police force amid claims officers breached the human rights of a group of football supporters.
