{"id":10484,"date":"2018-01-31T12:03:39","date_gmt":"2018-01-31T17:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=10484"},"modified":"2018-01-31T12:07:11","modified_gmt":"2018-01-31T17:07:11","slug":"larry-nassar-case-usa-gymnastics-doctor-abused-265-girls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/01\/31\/larry-nassar-case-usa-gymnastics-doctor-abused-265-girls\/","title":{"rendered":"Larry Nassar case: USA Gymnastics doctor &#8216;abused 265 girls&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">The number of known sexual abuse victims of former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar has grown to 265, a Michigan judge has said.<\/p>\n<p>At least 65 victims are set to confront Nassar in court this week in the last of three sentencing hearings, prosecutors say.<\/p>\n<p>He was sentenced last week to 40 to 175 years in prison after nearly 160 women testified that he had molested them.<\/p>\n<p>He was earlier sentenced to 60 years&#8217; prison for having child abuse images.<\/p>\n<p>The sentencing hearing that began Wednesday is to sentence Nassar for molesting patients in the back room of Twistars gymnastics club in Dimondale, Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>He pleaded guilty in November to three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against girls for whom he was supposed to be providing medical care.<\/p>\n<p>At least one of the sexual assaults included a victim younger than 13. Two of the victims were abused at 15 or 16 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Janice Cunningham told the small court in Charlotte, Michigan: &#8220;We have over 265 identified victims and an infinite number of victims in the state, in the country, and all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a result, by allowing live streaming and tweeting, all individuals are able to participate in this process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>USA Gymnastics has said every director of its board has now resigned in the wake of the scandal.<\/p>\n<p>The US Olympic Committee demanded that the entire board step down by Wednesday or face losing their governing authority.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are in the process of moving forward with forming an interim board of directors during the month of February,&#8221; said a statement by USA Gymnastics.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-us-canada-42894833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">The number of known sexual abuse victims of former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar has grown to 265, a Michigan judge has said.
