{"id":10441,"date":"2018-01-30T03:07:14","date_gmt":"2018-01-30T08:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=10441"},"modified":"2018-01-30T03:17:20","modified_gmt":"2018-01-30T08:17:20","slug":"ex-soldier-raiding-houses-gunpoint-takes-1m-jewellery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2018\/01\/30\/ex-soldier-raiding-houses-gunpoint-takes-1m-jewellery\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Ex-soldier&#8217; raiding houses at gunpoint takes \u00a31m jewellery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A highly-professional soldier with a &#8220;commanding nature&#8221; is believed to have carried out seven violent \u00a31m raids with military-style planning.<\/p>\n<p>The man stakes out expensive Home Counties properties and knows their exact layout and location of safes by the time he raids the homes, wielding a sawn-off shotgun, Surrey Police said<\/p>\n<p>He has taken jewellery, watches and &#8220;irreplaceable heirlooms&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Victim Susan Morris, 61, said: &#8220;He knew exactly how hard to hit me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>An appeal has now gone out from four police forces after raids across Berkshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex between November 2014 and October 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Morris said the raider kept asking her for more jewellery during the raid in October at her home in Kingswood, Surrey.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He hit me three times on my face, it was very painful, I couldn&#8217;t believe the blows kept coming,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Morris said at one point she could not get a ring and bracelet off, and added: &#8220;I actually thought &#8216;he&#8217;s going to cut my finger off&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When her husband came home from work, he found her still tied up with cables and hiding in a bedroom.<\/p>\n<p>Describing the thief, she said: &#8220;I would say he spoke well, he had no accent, he didn&#8217;t have bad grammar, he&#8217;s an intelligent man, he knows how to assess the situation and carry this out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/F60D\/production\/_99798926_hi044415688.jpg\" alt=\"Stolen jewellery\" width=\"976\" height=\"976\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\"><span class=\"media-caption__text\">Surrey Police said the burglar focuses on jewellery<\/span><\/figcaption><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Police believe the burglar could be ex-military because of his levels of preparation, and his &#8220;well-spoken, intelligent&#8221; language and manner, but they have said he could be a current member of the armed forces or law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Det Insp Dee Fielding, from Surrey Police, said: &#8220;We do not believe this to be the work of an opportunist burglar, but someone who has specialist knowledge and skills, possibly ex forces or from a similar background.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Officers said he operates alone, speaks little, threatens to kill people and their dogs and is &#8220;incredibly decisive&#8221;.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef-1.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/1442D\/production\/_99798928_hi044415686.jpg\" alt=\"Stolen watches\" width=\"976\" height=\"976\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\"><span class=\"media-caption__text\">Valuables worth more than \u00a31m have been taken from each property<\/span><\/figcaption><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On each occasion, the man has used &#8220;unnecessary levels of violence&#8221;, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Det Insp Fielding said the raids have occurred about once every six months, possibly as the offender needed money.<\/p>\n<p>She said that whereas most people would need two hands to use a cable tie, this man is able to tie people up using one hand even while they are struggling.<\/p>\n<p>The man is thought to have got into houses before the raids to better understand the layout, and has been seen on CCTV staking out targets.<\/p>\n<p>Police say they are looking for someone who may seem to have money disproportionate to their job, and might be travelling or away for long periods of time.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-42863601\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">A highly-professional soldier with a &#8220;commanding nature&#8221; is believed to have carried out seven violent \u00a31m raids with military-style planning.
