{"id":1034,"date":"2016-10-14T07:02:38","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T11:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=1034"},"modified":"2016-10-14T07:02:38","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T11:02:38","slug":"former-pm-guterres-awarded-human-rights-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2016\/10\/14\/former-pm-guterres-awarded-human-rights-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Former PM Guterres awarded Human Rights Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PORTUGAL Portugal\u2019s parliament has awarded Ant\u00f3nio Guterres its 2016 Human Rights Prize, for his performance as UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the speaker of parliament announced on Wednesday.\u00a0 Guterres is expected shortly to be acclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations as the organisation\u2019s new secretary-general.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker, Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, said in a statement, \u201cThe Assembly of the Republic has decided to award the 2016 Human Rights Prize, created by a resolution on 10 December of 1998, to Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, for his work in defence of human rights, namely in fulfilling his functions as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) between 2005 and 2015.\u00a0 Ant\u00f3nio Guterres\u2019s performance as UNHCR deserves the most eloquent praise.
