A sentence could be handed down Wednesday for the final man who admitted to abusing children in a small Manitoba town. \u00a0The Old Order Mennonite man was one of five charged in an investigation involving dozens of children abused in a horse-and-buggy community between 2011 and 2013. \u00a0The Crown is asking for\u00a0a federal prison sentence for him.<\/p>\n
The man pleaded guilty to one count of assault and\u00a0seven\u00a0counts of assault with a weapon. \u00a0Court hearings had\u00a0described\u00a0him as the “main actor” in the abuse. \u00a0Court documents also said\u00a0he conceived\u00a0the idea of using cattle prods on the children.<\/p>\n
Two sentenced men received jail time\u00a0of six months to a year. Another, who was sentenced in late June, received a year and a half\u00a0behind bars while a\u00a0woman was handed three years probation for her role in abusing\u00a0girls with a cattle prod and hitting one with a strap.<\/p>\n
Social workers took 42 children from 10 families into their custody after the abuse was discovered.<\/p>\n
