Semmie Williams is facing charges in the death of 14-year-old Ryan Rogers, who investigators say was violently stabbed while out riding his bike. In 2024, a judge ruled the death penalty could not be sought in the case, citing Williams' mental illness. Despite that ruling, Williams still faces a first-degree murder charge. Ryan Rogers was last seen alive on November 15, 2021. Rogers had gotten on his bike and left his home in Alton Community in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida at around 6:39pm. Reports say the following day his body was found on a sidewalk. Records indicate he was stabbed numerous times in the head and face. Officers found a pair of headphones near his body that did not belong to Ryan. A DNA analysis yielded a positive match to Williams, then 39. Surveillance-camera video and cellphone records showed that Rogers was riding his bicycle south on Central at about 7:30pm. Williams, who was homeless, was walking north on the same sidewalk at about the same time.
