Rodney Hinton Jr

Rodney Hinton Jr is charged with Two counts of aggravated murder; One count of murder; and Two counts of felonious assault. The charges relate to a May 2, 2025, incident where prosecutors allege Hinton intentionally used his vehicle to run over and kill Hamilton County Special Deputy Larry Henderson. Deputy Henderson, a 33-year veteran of the force who had recently retired, was directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati during a graduation ceremony when he was struck and killed. It is alleged that Hinton Jr. intentionally targeted Henderson because he was a law enforcement officer. The vehicle attack occurred just hours after Cincinnati police officers showed Hinton Jr. body camera footage of his 18-year-old son, Ryan Hinton, being shot and killed by police during a stolen car investigation. Police stated the younger Hinton had pointed a gun at officers before they fired. His defense argue that he suffered a severe 'mental break' immediately after watching the police footage of his son's death and lacked the mental capacity to comprehend the wrongfulness of his conduct. Hinton Jr. has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
