Mexico – A Mexican senator ended up in hospital after she was brutally beaten up by four men following a car crash.

Ana Gabriela Guevara, 39, was involved in an accident which involved her motorbike and a car which had four passengers.

The incident happened in Mexico-Toluca, Valle del Bravo city, which is around 150 kilometres from Mexico City.It is reported Ana was riding her Harley Davison motorbike when a Dodge Voyager vehicle hit her, causing her to fall to the ground.

The senator got up and faced the driver, who got out of the car and an argument ensued.

Three other men then also got out and then proceeded to attack her in a gruesome assault, punching her in the chest and in the head, according to local media.

Speaking of the attack, she said: ‘When I asked them to stop the car in order to call the insurance company as I thought it was an accident, four men got out of the car and started beating me violently, insulting me for being a woman and for riding a motorbike.’

She said the attack is said to have gone on for a few minutes before they returned to the car and raced away.

Ana, who was riding with her friend, Karina Rincon, also on a motorbike, got back on and rode until they came across a group of police.

She reported the attack to the officers who then called an ambulance and she was taken to hospital in the Santa Fe district in the Mexican capital, Mexico City.

There she underwent surgery to her jaw, with a steel bracket and screws used to fix her injuries.

She added: ‘I have watched the terrible state of violence women suffer and I hope the authorities find those responsible. They hurt me very much and it was all because I am a woman.’

Ana, a former Olympian who competed in the 400-metre track event, posted pictures online showing her injuries, including stitches, a swollen eye and an oxygen mask, calling the aggressors ‘vile cowards’.

Prosecutors have confirmed they are investigating the incident.
