Update – Closed Competency Hearing For Accused Church Shooter Dylann Roof

Update: The hearing will continue tomorrow at 9 AM.  No result from today’s testimony.

A closed hearing is scheduled in Charleston SC today on the competency of Dylann Roof to stand trial for the June 2015 killing of nine church goers.

The judge ruled against family members and the media who wanted an open hearing.  He was concerned that statements by Roof might not be admissible in a trial.

Based on the results of today’s hearing, the judge will rule later if the trial can proceed.

The shootings took place at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
