Judy Church

Judy Church is accused of poisoning her boyfriend by lacing his drink with chemicals commonly used in antifreeze. Church, a fourth grade teacher in Middleton, Massachusetts at the time, called 911 on November 11, 2022 saying her boyfriend needed an ambulance. 55-year-old Leroy Fowler was rushed to the hospital but died two days later on November 13, 2022. Hospital staff informed Fowler's family that his kidneys were damaged and, based upon his symptoms, they believed he could have ingested poison - specifically antifreeze. Fowler had previously told family members that he was worried Church was poisoning his drinks. Detectives found 13 videos on Church's phone showing Fowler in medical distress. A bottle of antifreeze was also found in the kitchen. An autopsy determined that Fowler died of ethylene glycol poisoning which is often found in antifreeze, ink, deicing fluid and hydraulic brake fluid. Detectives learned antifreeze can be ingested without someone's knowledge due to its sweet flavor, and a small dose can be fatal.
