Jaylen Lipsey is accused of shooting a Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputy on July 17, 2026. Lipsey faces Assault with intent to murder Carjacking; Disarming a police officer; Resisting and obstructing a police officer causing serious injury; Assault with a dangerous weapon; Prohibited person in possession of a firearm; Fleeing and eluding the police; and Multiple counts of felony firearm. The deputy was shot while responding to a vehicle larceny. Following the shooting, the suspect led law enforcement on a chase throughout different areas of the county in the deputy's stolen cruiser. The pursuit ended with a crash involving the stolen cruiser, several police vehicles, and a white van full of people.
