Dustin Duren is accused of killing Caytlyn Naffziger, 31, from a single gunshot wound to the head in February 2024 in Berlin, New Hampshire. He then allegedly took the couple's daughters. In the early morning hours of March 1, 2024 an Amber Alert was issued for 4-year-old Elowyn Duren and 1-year-old Vaelyn Duren. Following a tip he was arrested in Keene with the children unharmed. Dustin Duren was charged with second-degree murder, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and child endangerment. According to court documents, Duren allegedly admitted to killing Naffziger during the interview. Dustin Duren's attorneys say he was protecting the children from their mother, as he thought she was about to commit a kidnapping. New Hampshire law says that a person is justified in using deadly force when he or she reasonably believes that someone is committing or about to commit kidnapping.
