A R44 million inheritance battle is before the Mpumalanga High Court, where two women are laying claim to the estate of the late former deputy president David Mabuza who died on July 3 2025. Mabuza left behind a substantial estate and several dependants. Nonhlahla Patience Mnisi, armed with a posthumously issued marriage certificate, claims to be Mabuza's lawful wife and sole beneficiary of the annuity. However, Emunah Silinda insists she has been Mabuza's customary law wife since 1999. Although separated at the time of his death, Silinda maintains they remained married under customary law. Silinda has applied for urgent relief, citing her and her daughter Tamara's rights to financial support.
