Prince Lekukela Modjadji and supported by elements of the Modjadji Royal Council are seeking to review, set aside, and interdict the official recognition of his sister as the monarch. President Cyril Ramaphosa and the national Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs officially recognized Princess Masalanabo Modjadji as the rightful Queen (Queen Masalanabo Modjadji VII). Both the Presidency and the state are opposing the legal challenge. The government maintains its recognition of Queen Masalanabo is valid, characterizing the continuous litigation as an internal family power struggle. |
